THE LINCOLN ASSOCIATION OF JERSEY CITY

The one organization, in this broad land, that has never failed to celebrate his birthday, annually, since his death.

- The Honorable William Walter Phelps

The Nation's Oldest Civic Association Honoring Araham Lincoln

every february 12th since 1866,

the members of the Lincoln Association of Jersey City have met to commemorate the birth of the nation’s 16th president who was born on February 12, 1809.

For over one and a half centuries, the Lincoln Association of Jersey City continues to promote fellowship and scholarship in the spirit of Lincoln. Thought the Association has officers and trustees, it has no formal membership. Anyone who reveres the memory of the Great Emancipator is welcome to participate in the Association’s annual banquet, where speakers and scholars illuminate the man and his memory.

The number of books, papers and speeches about Lincoln are exceed only by the Bible it is said. With that, the Officers of the Lincoln Association agree with the words of Kansas Congressman Homer Hock:

There is no new thing to be said about Lincoln. There is no new thing to be said about the mountains, or of the sea, or of the stars. The years go their way, but the same old mountains lift their granite shoulders above the drifting clouds - the same mysterious sea beats upon the shore,- the same silent stars keep holy vigil above a tired world. But to the mountains and the sea and stars men turn forever in unwearied homage. And thus with Lincoln. For he was a mountain in grandeur of soul, he was a sea in deep under-voice of mystic loneliness, he was a star in steadfast purity of purpose and service. And he abides."
